Last week we talked about the secret power of challenging yourself!
So here are six tips to harness the secret power of challenge.
If you can’t think of any challenges here are a few to give you some ideas.
Nutritious meal preparation in advance
Wake up earlier
Sleep earlier
Read a book a month
Exercise twice a day
Journaling every morning
Going for a walk each day
- Give yourself a challenging goal
Pick something TO do rather than NOT to do for this challenge. So instead of saying I will not eat sweets or junk food try something like- I will eat a salad every day. Pick something that will be moderate to difficult in challenge level. If It’s too easy you won’t be motivated to do it and you will feel like you can skip it. If it’s too hard you will dread starting. Be realistic. Think of an outcome that you would be satisfied with that will allow you to get a boost on your health or a project you are working on.
- Break down your new challenge into increments
Just like the atomic habits book I keep bringing up, the key is consistency. If your goal is to read a book every other month you can start your challenge with reading just one page a day and then break down how many pages you will have to read each day in order to finish one for the month.
- Make small schedule adjustments to try out your new challenge and keep re-evaluating.
Now that you’ve decided to go to bed earlier what are smaller changes you will need to make that happen? Maybe for the next two weeks, there are some things you will have to take out of your day. Once you hone in it will help to bring priority to your challenge.
- Keep track of your success
This is really important because it will help you build momentum as you see yourself getting hitting your challenge each day. Don’t break the chain even if you don’t feel like doing it tell yourself you will at least give yourself ten minutes of it each day.
- Bring others on your journey
Ask someone to join you on your journey and keep each other accountable. I recently did a blog writing challenge with a writer friend and each morning after we finished our blog we texted each other to say we finished and what we wrote about.
- Try a new challenge every two weeks
Once you accomplish your goal try doing the challenge again for longer or adding in a different challenge!
Have you ever challenged yourself in this way? What did you do?
