I’m going to tell you something…
you probably already know but I’m going to say it anyway.
You need to rest.
You need to stop everything, go to a park, take off your shoes and put your feet in the grass, sit down and just contemplate life.
Ok you don’t actually have to do that. I know everyone has different responsibilities and schedules and demands on their life. What I really want to stress is how important it is for each person to take a few moments in your day or in your week to give yourself space to rejuvenate mentally. Depending on your day to day it can be challenging I know. So many useless and important things need our focus at any moment. Children, spouses, work, our health, the list can go on. Sometimes it’s hard to have a second to refocus let alone a few min or even an hour. But I encourage you to look for those moments. Take the kids to the park and find a spot for yourself. Or after the kids have gone to bed before you pass out take a few minutes to reflect. Get out of the office and go for a walk at lunch or leave early if you have that option. Being out in nature is calming and healthy for your body. Taking a rest or break doesn’t have to mean abandoning your family. It just means being intentional at some point in the day about yourself.
Whenever I take time out to reconnect with myself and God I find so many things under the surface. I find questions I’ve been dodging- what are the deep troubling thoughts you’ve been trying to ignore? I find inspiration- What would bring you the most joy? I find myself contemplating-What is the world teaching us about ourselves today? What did you learn?
When I pause, I examine myself- What makes me feel validated? What’s important to you? What passions are you pursuing?
In all of this I’m really just trying to say to take time out and listen to what is stirring inside you pray and listen to what God may be telling you.
How can you create space for yourself this week to rest?
